Digital Computing Machines
Computers are for computing, they compute data, various kinds of data.
After however many years it's been developing digital computing technology we have two prototypes of what a "computer" could be:
- Emacs: for people who know about computing
- iPhone: for people who don't know about computing
What we can and cannot compute, what we can and cannot do resulting from our computational abilities, is astounding.
The hardware, of the Divine, raped from the Earth by slaves, turned into components by moneyworshipping corporations to be assembled into machines that are then ruined by the software installed on them, to only then be thrown out and replaced due to the moneyworshippers' neverending greed and ceaseless drive to sell more. It's tragic, and reasonably described with the word "evil".
As with the industrial revolution, all the technology is ruined by the sociopathic greed and worshipping of money.
lordMode
A modal operating system:
- services mode: a light-weight core like Alpine or OpenWRT that's the core mode others are built on
- pc mode: "normal" operating system built on the lighter core with "gui" stuff
- kiosk mode: boot straight into a custom program (or suite of programs)
Init
lordMode must begin with a sane init system. Something like Runit or OpenRC.
Services/daemons
We need a lua scripted services/scheduling thing, a replacement for cron, and which can be used as a library by other programs.
As a library it sould be usable by programs like https://github.com/catanadj/taskwarrior-nautical, by web apps, and by custom functions/scripts to for example, "send email on x date".
A Sane, Useful Package Manager
The package managers of today are not useless, they can, in fact, be used to manage software packages. The fact that today's package managers are not literally useless does not make them useful.
As if it weren't bad enough that the system package manager is so deficient that every programming language must create their own package manager, yet another package manager called brew has become popular enough that I now have to look past installation instructions like brew install their/whatever. The name brew is, I suppose, less bad than meth, but a better name would certainly be dope.
This sane, useful package manager should have a sane name/command, perhaps app? app install programname makes sense.
Apparently Alpine's apk is a good point of inspiration? I've bricked my computer with the most basic apt commands enough to undermine its acclaimed "stability". This actual piece of software worthy of the word "package manager" will use this thing called a "variable" to allow various sources to be used and configured for all use cases.
Learn from Gobo Linux. Make NixOS obsolete. Make it work on 20year-old hardware. Please just end this nightmare. This should make for sane management of runtimes/versions of programming languages too, hopefully, maybe with specific tooling for that itself?

A Commandline Shell for the 80's
lua shell inspired by fish and lilush, is desired.
GUI Desktop Environment
Window management, panels/docks, widgets etc. Sanely done with lua.
It's time for a core framework that can be customized into looking/behaving like the various things we see today kde/gnome/etc. A framework the way AwesomeWM is a framework but without the awful api, following more reasonable/learnable naming patterns.

Web browser
What shockingly dreadful situation, these "web browsers" and the Internet are in. Perhaps Luakit will be a good starting point?
Document publishing
